How to Prep Your Skin for the Fall

Skin Prep: From Summer to Fall-01
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Summer is almost over, which means it’s time for us to prep our skin for the transition into fall. With just these simple changes, your skin can continue to be healthy, soft, hydrated, youthful and look warm and radiant, even as the weather turns cold and brings with it conditions that make our skin dryer than in the sweaty heat of summer.

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Tip #1: Use Primer” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]A good makeup primer promotes collagen synthesis, enhances tissue repair, and reduces signs of environmental damage, while giving you a perfect makeup daily. Such a primer must be water based and can be used as an oil-free moisturizer.

How often throughout the day do you have to fix your makeup? Primer will help it last longer. It’s similar to the primer you’d use on a wall in that, without it, the imperfections on the surface would poke through and the paint that you put on wouldn’t look as neat, or last as long.

Primer plays a crucial role in doing just what the name says: priming your skin for makeup. You have probably experienced it before–makeup doesn’t like to stick to your skin! Primer is the base that gives your layers of makeup a smooth texture that it will want to stick to.

The result is that your makeup stays on for longer. And, more than that, it looks better from the get-go because you have provided it with a smooth and appropriate surface to cling to.

Primer is available in cream, gel, and powder form. That means you can pick a formula that matches the consistency of the other makeup you use for the best results.

Many women skip primer because they think that using a moisturizer is the better option. After all, a moisturizer will soften your skin and do the same thing as primer, right? Wrong!

The kind of nutrient-rich primer we recommend should actually be the first thing you put on your face, and here’s why:

  • It evens skin tone. Primer evens out the texture and appearance of your skin, which leads to a naturally beautiful look.
  • It offers a smoother application. Primer is going to smooth out your face, which will result in cleaner looking makeup.
  • It provides a better base. Primer gives the perfect surface for your makeup to cling to, resulting in a longer wear.
  • It protects the face. Primer shields your face by giving you a protective, breathable, non-comedogenic oil-free nutrient-packed barrier, keeping pores open and free from being clogged by makeup or any other harsh additives. This means that it is helpful to those with acne and acne-prone skin.
  • Make sure your primer is nutrient-rich. A good primer which has ingredients like saccharomyces copper ferment, saccharomyces zinc ferment and saccharomyces manganese ferment will enhance the health of your overall skin and face and help promote healing to the skin.

Your makeup will wear longer if you wear primer any day, but especially in extreme weather. If you wear primer in cold and dry climates, you are going to get a much longer wear out of any makeup you put on. In the summer, it also plays an important role for hot and humid days where it has the same effect: making your makeup last a lot longer.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5602″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Tip #2: Don’t Forget Sunscreen” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Summer is definitely when sunscreen sales top the charts, but many people share in the common misconception that it’s not really important aside from your beach vacation. Unfortunately, this misconception is widespread and it is very detrimental to your skin’s health.

Even as the warmth fades away and days turn more cloudy, sunscreen should still be considered a crucial part of your routine year-round. Regardless of the temperature outside, the sun’s rays can still cause lasting harm to your skin. This is especially true when you find yourself around water, snow, or other reflective surfaces that will strengthen harmful UV rays and their effects.

Sunscreen should remain an integral part of your routine, especially as the leaves fall off the trees and shade becomes more and more scarce. If you get a sunscreen with moisturizer built in, you’ll also be doing your skin a big extra favor in the cold and dry climate.

Sun Protection Factor (“SPF”) 15 will probably do just fine, but to be safe, always check the UV index for your area on a given day to see how much you should lather up. Special facial sunscreen can be used to prevent breakouts and care for your sensitive skin. You can also double-up with SPF makeup, but don’t use it as a replacement for sunscreen. Using skin care and hair care products that have natural SPF should be a priority for you year-round.

Finally, be sure to use SPF lip balm because your lips are definitely susceptible to sun damage too![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5600″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Tip #3: Pamper Your Feet” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]When the weather begins to turn cold or in some parts of the world when the Harmattan season comes, many people will begin to notice very rough and dry heels as their feet begin to crack. It is annoying and can be painful too. Make a promise to yourself that you won’t forget to pamper your feet and give them the extra care they need as summer turns to fall, winter, and into spring again.

Your feet deserve year-round care. After all, they have one of the hardest jobs of all, but they deserve extra special attention during the fall and winter months when they are prone to drying out and cracking. Not only are cracked heels painful, but rough heels simply aren’t flattering and they can make you uncomfortable with their scratchiness and appearance.

Be sure to give your feet the hydrating and soothing soaks and cleanses they deserve to stay in their best shape possible. Your feet should get a nice relaxing scrub once or twice a week. This is when you must make sure to wash with a hydrating body wash or charcoal body wash and follow up with an excellent moisturizing oil, moisturizing cream or blemish cream. Avoid sulfates, avoid harmful chemicals and avoid alcohol in your products as they are drying and exacerbate dry cracked ashy conditions.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5599″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Tip #4: Care for Your Cuticles” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]A tell-tale sign of cold weather is cuticles that are drying out. Did you even know that cuticle oil was a thing? It’s actually a critical part of your beauty routine if you want your nails and fingertips to be as beautiful and healthy as can be.

Regularly using cuticle oil should become as standard as applying lotion to your hands, elbows, and other areas that are especially prone to drying out in the colder months.

With cuticle oil, you can keep your cuticles hydrated, healthy, and happy. This will make them look better, feel better, and prevent painful peeling cuticles that are just as unpleasant to experience as they are to look at.

Make the application of cuticle oil a good habit this fall as you continue caring for your hands and nails throughout the season. Be sure to trim and file regularly too to prevent broken nails and remain hydrated to keep your nails naturally smooth and shiny.

While taking care of your nails and cuticles, be sure to care for your hands and feet too with proper hydrating washes, body creams and body oils.

If you notice rigid or brittle nails, it means your diet is not giving them all the nutrients they need to be healthy. This deficiency is affecting other parts of your body too, even if you don’t notice it. Give your body what it needs![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5606″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Tip #5: Implement A Better Beauty Routine” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]In the end, there are lots of things you can do to make sure that your skin stays healthy and fresh all year long.
