Ingredients Sulfate Free

With new skincare technologies bombarding the market, many beauty lovers are having trouble figuring out what’s really important for their daily routine and what’s just hype. With skepticism over many of the products on the market, it can be tough to shop for anything skincare without feeling paranoid about what you’ll be putting your skin through, and whether the products you are going to be using have any unfortunate side effects.

Sulfates (recommended usage is “Sulphates”), are just one more of the ingredients we’re constantly being warned about with skin care products, but what exactly are sulphates, and why are they potentially dangerous?

Sulphates are basically aggressive surfactants or detergents made of sulfur-containing mineral salts that are found in cosmetic products like face cleansers as well as body washes, shampoos, and toothpastes. The most common sulphates are sodium laureth ether sulfate (SLES) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).

Sulphates come with a range of disadvantages. Some claim that sulphates will strip your hair of color while others believe that Sulphates can contribute to or cause cancer. Research has shown that sulphates can cause direct harm to your eyes and skin, so why would you put it into your beauty routine?

The main issue with sulfates is that they can lead to eye irritation and skin irritation that can exacerbate the longer a person stays in contact with them. This means regularly using a beauty product with sulphates can cause serious issues.

Sulphates can also lead the skin to becoming dry as well as causing acne if used regularly. But, the negative implications of sulphates aren’t just limited to skin. They also have a damaging effect on your hair. Although sulphates are exceptionally effective at cleansing your hair, they can also lead you to experience a significant loss of natural oils from your skin and your hair, therefore causing moisture and nutrient loss.

Doctors often say that sulphates happen to be so good at cleansing that they also end up stripping the hair of the content it needs, leaving it brittle, dry, and rough. Sulphates can cause irritation and dryness to the scalp too. Additionally, it has been noted that haircare products that consist of sulphates can cause acne on the back or around your hairline.

So, why are they still being used? In the short-term, sulphates have a higher level of foaming lather to a product, they are powerful cleansers, are inexpensive and easy to find, which is why they have been incorporated into all kinds of cosmetics over time. However, Shinkafa is all about promoting your hair’s and skin’s natural, long-term health, which is why all of our Shinkafa products are sulphate-free (sulfate-free) and extra nourishing.
